What is spiritual enlightenment.

What is spiritual enlightenment
What is spiritual enlightenment, a definition
To define spiritual enlightenment, its very hard to explain, as the experience is different for the individual. Spiritual enlightenment has a connection with many talked about subjects, there are many ways to describe it, each one is individual preference but there is one fact which remains the same, which is 'the merging with everything'. Because spiritual enlightenment is rich and complex experience, they are very difficult to define...the better answers come from eastern philosophies, I will make the definions easier to understand.

Spiritual enlightenment in eastern philosophies
Spiritual enlightenment is being free from all the impurities of the mind, example would be free from, lust, anger and cravings. It is a state of inner peace, which is to be content and the end of suffering one faces. Here is a quote by Buddha on Nirvana (a state of enlightenment) " The highest happiness, this is not the temporary sense of happiness or a sense based happiness we feel in everyday life, it is a transcendental bliss attained through enlightenment." The buddha also describes being in nirvana as to being deathlessness (meaning there is no such thing as death) which is the highest spiritual achievement and also the natural result when one follows their life accordance to dharma.

Moving on to liberation - Moksha (Enlightenment)

In Hinduism, liberation happens when one soul(known as atman) understands its identity as one being with everything or with the source of all life known as brahman. In the Hindu scriptures, the bhagavad gita and works of non dualism Advaita Vedanta, affirms the self or super self is formless, beyond being anything, not being or beyond the sense of being touched and awareness. When one achieves Moksha which is the final release from ones temporal conception of the self.

The individual experience

In this video Sadhguru explains his enlightenment.. although enlightenment can be harsh, there are times where it is very pleasant, a experience where you can understand the truth, the oneness with everything.
As you can see Enlightenment described by buddha and in hinduism are very similar, which is to release one self from outwardly lust and being free from the contamination of the mind. It is not a state of happiness you feel throughout life, but rather crumbling away of the untruth and letting go of temporary happiness.
